Veterans Day Ceremony

Veterans Day 2023

The Town of Huntersville, American Legion Post 321 & Sons of the American Legion Post 321 invite you to save the date for our 8th Annual Veterans Day Parade & Ceremony on Saturday, November 11, 2023.

This year's parade theme is "Honoring our Past; Our Veterans of the Forgotten War" with the goal of honoring the veterans who fought in the Korean War.

“A contributing factor to why the Korean War is called the Forgotten War is primarily the overshadowing effects of the preceding World War II and the Vietnam and Cold War's just around the corner. The Forgotten War was essentially sandwiched between significant conflicts involving more powers”.

Grand Marshal, Joseph Moyer

This year's Grand Marshal is Joseph V Moyer. At the age of 17 he enlisted in the US Navy in 1948 and went through boot camp at Great Lakes Naval Training Center. Upon graduation from boot camp he was assigned to Fighter Squadron VF 174 in Jacksonville, FL. He completed Aviation Electrician School in Memphis, TN in 1949 and was an AE 2 upon discharge in 1952. His squadron served tours of duty on the largest ships in the world at that time, the aircraft carriers USS Midway, FDR and Coral Sea, during the Korean war.

If you are a Korean War Veteran or know a living Korean War Veteran that would be interested in sharing your story and/or participating in our parade, we invite you to reach out to Maria Cepeda at mcepeda@huntersville.org

We want the community to line the streets and thankfully cheer on our parade participants at 10 a.m. and then meet us back at Veterans Park for the 11 a.m. ceremony to honor and remember those who serve and have served.
