Stumptown Road Extension Project

Overview

A project to extend Stumptown Road east of NC115 (Old Statesville Road) is anticipated to begin construction in 2026. This project will feature bike lanes and sidewalks, similar to the existing community. Seagle Street will also extend north to the new road, which will further enhance the local connectivity.

A drop-in style info session was held on July 26, 2022, at Huntersville Town Hall (101 Huntersville-Concord Road) for this project.

FAQs

Why is Stumptown Road being extended?

There is a need for additional east-west mobility for travelers in this area. The proposed project will enhance connectivity to existing streets for drivers and encourage non-vehicular modes of transportation with bike lanes and sidewalks.

Why do we have to close some of the existing railroad crossings?

Norfolk-Southern agreed to the new crossing at Stumptown Road in exchange for the closure of two public crossings and four private crossings.

How much will this project cost?

Currently, the Stumptown Road Extension Project estimate is $10M. This estimate will be refined as we work through the project development.

What are the next steps for this project?

Currently, the Town is working in the environmental phase of the project and expects completion of this phase in the fall. Following the completion of environmental documents, the consultant will begin the final design of the project and begin property acquisitions. Once all the required property has been acquired, the Town can begin the construction phase of the project. Construction is anticipated to begin in 2026.
