If you, your neighborhood or your organization would like to help a family or elderly person in need for the holidays, please contact Sgt Brad Habenicht or Helping Hands Sponsor Application

We can combine individuals and/or groups to serve one family, or if you would prefer, you or your group can support an entire family.

Specific needs (such as household needs, clothing sizes and toy wish list) will be provided once we identify those who will receive the donations.

If you are unable to work with a group to support a family, but still wish to participate, we will accept non-expired canned or boxed foods (beginning November 1st).  We will also accept gift certificates/cards for local grocery and retail stores.  New (unwrapped) toys, may be dropped off at the Huntersville Police Department or at any Toys for Tots location throughout the North Mecklenburg area.  We do not accept used clothing, toys or stuffed animals, please take those items to your local donation center.

Our process:

  • It is confidential for both the donor and recipient (No personal information will be exchanged during the process, except for the recipients first name, gender, age and clothing size).  This information is shared so gifts wrapped with have the correct persons first name on it and the appropriate clothing and/or toys are purchased.
  • Donors will be asked what level of support they are able to do.  HPD will match their level of support with a comparable family in need.  In some cases, a family will be divided between two donors to ensure their need is met.
  • Families/Individuals receiving donations are chosen by the contacts our officers make in the community and through local schools, we do not accept self referrals. Recipients of the program must live in the Town of Huntersville or their children must attend school in the Town of Huntersville.  Any referrals received outside of this standard will be referred to their appropriate agency.
  • HPD will serve as an intermediary between the donor and recipient.  We will make arrangements to accept the donations for the recipient and we will schedule these donations for delivery to them.
