Business Community:

Huntersville is home to national and internationally known companies and some of the Town’s largest employers are: GE Polymerland, Rubbermaid, Irwin Industrial Tools, Max Daetwyler Corporation, American Tire Distributors, Inc., Presbyterian Hospital, McGuire Nuclear Station, Siegling America, Americredit, Metrolina Greenhouses and Joe Gibbs Racing to name a few.

The Town has worked with the other North Mecklenburg Towns of Cornelius, Davidson, as well as the Chamber of Commerce to create the Lake Norman Regional Economic Development Corporation to help the region attract more commercial and industrial tax base.  The LNREDC seeks to find and prepare new sites as it works to bring new businesses to the area.  The three towns are unique in their cooperation together and with Mecklenburg County for economic development.  This past fall construction began on the new North Mecklenburg Industrial Park in Huntersville, a joint venture where each of the three towns will share the revenue and expenses of building the park – a first in North Carolina for this type of economic development venture.  The work of the LNREDC has already attracted the park’s first client, Prairie Packaging, an Illinois-based plastics manufacturing company who is locating its Southeast manufacturing hub in Huntersville.

Area Attractions: Recreation

Huntersville Family Fitness and Aquatics (HFFA) is a world class facility boasting an Olympic sized 50-meter competition pool and diving well.  It has served as host to a number of World Class events, most recently hosting current and future Olympians at the 2005 Speedo US National and Junior National Diving Championships.  In addition, HFFA offers a well rounded fitness experience with a 25-yard warm water pool, full court gymnasium, fitness center, group exercise studio, and outdoor splash park that children and their parents regularly enjoy during warmer months.

The town also offers a variety of beautiful parks.  The Town of Huntersville Parks and Recreation Department has eleven facilities that they maintain and two other large parks, Bradford and Canipe, that will break construction in 2006.  These parks are home to many amateur sporting events and youth tournaments every year and offer neighborhoods playground and team sport activities.  The Huntersville Parks and Recreation Department also works to bring new events such as the Soap Box Derby to the area.

Huntersville also provides access to Lake Norman and its 520 miles of shoreline.  Huntersville residents can find access to the lake by visiting Blythe Landing Park, just off NC Highway 73 for launching boats and other recreational activities.

Huntersville is home to Historic Latta Plantation with its 1200+ acres of historic sites, nature preserve, trails for biking, hiking or horseback riding and access to Mountain Island Lake for canoeing.  Latta is also home to the Carolina Raptor Center

Huntersville is also home to Historic Rural Hill Farm, the homestead of Major John & Violet Wilson Davidson, which pays tribute to Scottish heritage and offers a variety of events year-round and attracts visitors throughout the region.  Events include the Loch Norman Highland Games, the Amazing Maize Maze and sheep dog trails among other historical events throughout the year.

Several fine golf courses also call Huntersville home.  These include the Arnold Palmer designed Birkdale Golf Club, semi-private Skybrook Golf Club and the private Northstone Country Club.  Huntersville sits in the middle of the Lake Norman and Charlotte regions where numerous outstanding golf locations are found.

Area Attractions: Shopping

Huntersville is home to some of the nation’s most unique mixed use developments.  Birkdale Village is a residential, office, shopping and dining destination to compare with any in the State.  Its numerous shops, restaurants and movie theater offer something for those of all ages.  Special events and concerts are regularly held at its fountain and through its green space.  Rosedale Shopping Center offers a variety of necessities such as a CVS, Harris Teeter, Blockbuster Video, Domino’s Pizza, ABC Store, different types of restaurants and hair cut places.  Similar to Birkdale Village, residents in the nearby apartments, town homes and neighborhoods find Rosedale’s offerings are but a quick walk away.   Northcross Shopping Center offers more traditional big box type stores such as Target, Lowes, Kohl’s, Old Navy and is home to a variety of restaurants and entertainment stores.
