Update from December 12 Public Workshop

A Public Workshop was held in Huntersville Town Hall from 6:30-8:00pm to introduce the project plans to the public, take questions and gather input. Approximately 75 residents attended the meeting.

A handout with general project information was available along with a separate comment sheet. Visitors were asked to sign in so the project mailing list could be updated for future mailings. Two of each of the following exhibits were prepared for viewing:

1. 100' scale aerial map (2 MB) showing the study area from US 21 to east of NC 115
2. 200' scale aerial map (4 MB) showing the entire project area from US 21 to Ramah Church Road

The maps showed the limits of the study corridor and the centerline alignment, ROW, and easements similar to the 1993 design prepared by the State.

Written comments were submitted, and many citizens expressed input verbally.
A summary of comments is as follows:

* Cambridge Grove resident requested left and right turns out of the neighborhood.

* Request for traffic signal at Rich Hatchett Road and Northcross Village entrance.

* Request for realignment of Cambridge Grove Road with Sutters Run and inclusion of a traffic signal.

* Request for evaluation of safety improvements at Mayes Road/NC 73 intersection.

* Endorsement of bike lanes and sidewalks as part of project.

* Request to preserve large oak trees in front of Playwise Preschool Academy

* Request for convenient access to Playwise Preschool Academy for eastbound and westbound travelers. Concern regarding Tuesday evening and Sunday traffic associated with proposed church development on NC 73 (north side of NC 73, west of Westmoreland Road). Current membership at a temporary location is 6,000 people.

* Landscaping the planted median with trees

* Access to individual parcels, median openings, & turn lanes

* Traffic signal locations

* Bridges vs. extending existing large pipe culverts

For those unable to attend the meeting who wish to add their input to this process, email Brian Dehler at brian.dehler@rwhitehead.com and put “NC73” in the subject line.
