Prosperity Church Rd. Extension / Asbury Chapel Rd. Relocation / Verhoeff Dr. Extension - Corridor Study

The purpose of this study is to develop a plan to accommodate travel demand in the corridor of a proposed major thoroughfare known as the Prosperity Church Road Extension. The study will include additional analysis on an extension of the proposed Verhoeff Drive Extension from its currently defined terminus to Prosperity Church Road Extension and possibly to Eastfield Road. The study area map shows the proposed location of Prosperity Church Road Extension currently shown on the Mecklenburg-Union Thoroughfare Plan. The Town of Huntersville Board of Commissioners voted May 1, 2006 to add the relocation of Asbury Chapel Road to this study.

All design alternatives resulting from the Prosperity Church Road Extension Corridor Study will conform to the Town of Huntersville's and the Mecklenburg-Union Metropolitan Planning Organization's (MUMPO) overall community design and multi-modal transportation goals as evidenced in land use and transportation plans and regulations.

A Technical Team composed of staff of Huntersville, Davidson, Charlotte, Mecklenburg County and a consultant team led by Parsons Brinckerhoff Quade & Douglas, Inc. (PB) will develop alternatives for the location of the proposed roadway. The Technical Team will employ a planning approach entitled Context Sensitive Solutions (CSS) for transportation facility planning and conceptual design. A powerpoint presentation (9MB) has been created to provide an overview of the CSS approach in planning and design of transportation facilities.

A significant CSS element is stakeholder involvement based on open, continuous communications. A focus group composed of representatives of local planning boards, major landowners in the study area, and interested community groups met several times to provide input to the Technical Team on issues associated with location and design of the extension of Prosperity Church Road in Huntersville.  Attached are notes from these sessions (3 PDFs in zip archive).

According to the study schedule, locations for Prosperity Church Road Extension and Asbury Chapel relocation will go to MUMPO for approval in November 2006.
