What is the 2030 Community Plan Update?
The Huntersville Community Plan is the primary long-range land use policy document, providing guidance for development and conservation efforts in the Town of Huntersville. Over the next 12 months, the Town of Huntersville will be engaged in a comprehensive update of its Community Plan, first adopted by the Huntersville Town Board in 1989, and subsequently updated in 1995 and 2003.

What Will the Community Plan Include?
The 2030 Huntersville Community plan will set the vision and policy guidelines for land use, development and conservation in the Town Huntersville, along with an implementation strategy, for the next 20 years. The plan will be organized around nine (9) “Focus” areas, as follows:
- Downtown
- Economic Development
- Public Facilities
- Housing
- Rural/Transitional Area Development
- Commercial Corridors
- Local Transportation Network
- Special/Small Area Plans
- Environment
For each of these Focus Areas, the plan will offer specific goals and objectives to be achieved between now and 2030. To maintain its relevance, the Community Plan will need to be updated and modified as necessary to reflect changes in priorities and conditions affecting the various plan elements.

Why Do We Need to Update the Community Plan?
Since the first community plan was adopted in 1989, the Town of Huntersville has grown from approximately 3,000 residents to almost 50,000. The land use, growth and development issues and challenges facing Huntersville are much different than they were 20 years ago. The Huntersville 2030 Community Plan update will address these changes and provide a new vision for growth and development for the next 20 years. From a land use ordinance perspective, it is important that the Community Plan be updated as new development is required to be consistent with the Town’s adopted long-range plans, including the Community Plan. The Community Plan will also provide guidance to the Huntersville Town Board, Planning Board and other citizen boards, as well as businesses, developers and landowners who are contemplating new development, expansions, capital infrastructure investments, re-development or land preservation.
Who Will Be Preparing the Community Plan Update?
Huntersville Planning Department staff will be preparing the 2030 Community Plan, under the direction of the Town Board and Planning Board.
