The Planning Department promotes the efficient growth and development of Huntersville's 63-square mile planning jurisdiction. The Town has received regional and national attention due to its progressive and innovative growth management policies. Huntersville is fully committed to careful growth and development based upon the principles of traditional town planning, transit- oriented development, and quality urban design. In the past five years, new development has occurred at an unprecedented pace as growth proceeds outward from Charlotte. Our population has grown to over 43,000 residents.
Moreover, Huntersville, in conjunction with two neighboring municipalities -- Cornelius and Davidson -- has engaged in a number of cooperative long-range projects designed to combat suburban sprawl, encourage commuter rail connections to surrounding communities, and preserve rural lands. Together these three towns comprise 100 square miles of Mecklenburg County.
