It is the mission of Huntersville Parks and Recreation Department to provide a localized system of parks and recreation resources and services to enhance the quality of life of Huntersville residents.

excellence award 2009

The department strives to develop and maintain safe and attractive parks and recreation areas; to partner and cooperate with other town departments, area agencies, sponsors and organizations to address the leisure needs of residents in the most cost-effective manner, and to support the physical, mental, moral and economic health of our community through provision and promotion of special events as well as traditional recreational programs and opportunities.

Huntersville Parks and Recreation Department's parks division maintains and operates over 230 acres of developed parkland and over 410 acres of undeveloped parkland. Over 1 million park patrons visit our parks annually. Some of the most used parks in Mecklenburg County are in Huntersville with over 2,100 baseball and softball games played in Huntersville parks yearly. The department also hosted 33 sporting events in 2009 which generated an estimated $4.9 million in economic impact.  Bradford Park and North Mecklenburg Park will play host for the 202010 National Softball Association World Series for Girl’s 14U Fast-Pitch Softball. For more information, click on the parks and facilities link.

The Huntersville Parks and Recreation Department's programming division offers high quality and diverse programs to the citizens of Huntersville at the lowest cost possible. The department offered over 160 successful programs and special events to over 18,000 participants last year. Programs offered range from girl’s volleyball, adult softball, teen adventure camps, senior bridge, start smart, & after school enrichment programs. 2009 Parks and Recreation Department Employee of the Year

The Town of Huntersville is honored to recognize Dave White as the 2009 Parks and Recreation Department Employee of the Year. He was among the Department’s four Employee of the Quarter recipients and accepted that honor in the 3rd Quarter of 2009.

Dave is the Athletic Coordinator with the Parks and Recreation Department and has been employed by the Town for more than three years.

Dave is responsible for all the athletic division’s program offerings.  Some of those programs include Youth Summer Sports Camp Series, Youth Volleyball, Youth Flag Football, Youth Lacrosse, Senior Softball, Adult Men’s and Co-ed Softball and Start Smart Programs.  All of these programs have seen dramatic growth and at the same time the quality of the programs have continued to improve.  Dave also conducts coaches and parent training classes to ensure the quality of the programs are maintained.  Dave has demonstrated his commitment to service by always looking for ways to get more people involved, build new programs and ensure the participants have a great experience.  Dave was also the key staff member that helped the department receive the Excellence in Youth Sports Award presented by the Nation Alliance for Youth Sports.  Huntersville was the only town, city or county nationwide to receive this award in 2009.
Dave is a graduate of East Carolina University and he holds a B.S. Degree in Management of Recreation Facilities and Services.

The Town is proud to recognize Dave White as the 2009 Parks and Recreation Department Employee of the Year.
