The department strives to develop and maintain safe and attractive parks and recreation areas; to partner and cooperate with other town departments, area agencies, sponsors and organizations to address the leisure needs of residents in the most cost-effective manner, and to support the physical, mental, moral and economic health of our community through provision and promotion of special events as well as traditional recreational programs and opportunities.

Huntersville Parks and Recreation Department's parks division maintains and operates over 230 acres of developed parkland and over 410 acres of undeveloped parkland. Over 877,000 park patrons visit our parks annually. Some of the most used parks in the Mecklenburg County are in Huntersville with over 1,800 baseball and softball games played in Huntersville parks yearly. The department also hosted 25 sporting events in 2008 which generated an estimated $3.5 million in economic impact.  North Mecklenburg Park was the host site for the 2008 National Softball Association World Series for Girl’s 8U and 10U Fast-Pitch Softball.
