NC 73 Project

The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) is currently improving (widening) NC 73 from just west of US 21 to just east of NC 115, a distance of approximately 1.8 miles.  The existing road is to be modified to a four lane (two lanes in each direction) divided facility with additional lanes for turning movements at the intersections.  Sidewalks and landscaping will be provided on both sides of NC 73 in a majority of the project area.  The primary purpose of this project is to reduce vehicular congestion along NC73 and improve safety.

The NC 73 widening project utilizes the design-build method of construction to reduce the delivery schedule by overlapping the design phase and construction phase of the project.  The NCDOT has set up a website for the project (R-2632AA) and can be found HERE.

David Kenny Farm Road Connection

As part of the Town's capitol improvement program, a roadway connection is planned for David Kenny Farm Road to connect to Birkdale Commons Parkway.  This objective of this project is to increase connectivity to the Breckenridge neighborhood.  Currently, David Kenny Farm Road has one access point to NC 73.  This connection would provide alternative access to the neighborhood via Birkdale Commons Parkway.

This project is currently in the early planning phases.  This project is planned to be discussed at the Town Board retreat in early 2012.

Bud Henderson Road Bridge Replacement

As part of the NCDOT low impact bridge replacement program, the existing bridge on Bud Henderson Road between Brenthaven Park Drive and Carrington Ridge Drive is to be replaced as a two lane bridge (one lane in each direction).  To facilitate future bike and pedestrian movements along Bud Henderson Road in this vicinity, the Town has committed to provide additional funding to NCDOT to increase the width of the bridge by 9 feet to accommodate bike and pedestrian movements across bridge.  This bridge is scheduled for replacement in fiscal year 2011-2012.
