The NC 73/Poplar Tent Road Small Area Plan has Begun

The Town of Huntersville Planning Department has begun the process for preparation of the NC 73/Poplar Tent Road Small Area Plan (NC 73/PTRSAP). Click here  to view the Study Area Boundaries for this plan. For the Project Schedule, click here.

The purpose of the NC 73/PTRSAP, is to establish a short to medium range (5-10 year) land use and transportation vision for the study area.

The NC 73/PTRSAP is an update to a previous plan completed in November 2005. This plan, titled the “NC 73: Davidson-Concord Road to Poplar Tent Road Small Area Land Use & Economic Development Plan (NC 73 LUED Plan), was a joint undertaking of the Towns of Huntersville, Davidson, Cabarrus County and the cities of Kannapolis and Concord and addressed land use and economic development issues along NC 73 between Davidson-Concord Road and Poplar Tent Road. The NC 73 LUED Plan included detailed recommendations for future land uses and transportation networks within an approximately 1,800 acre study area, including approximately 430 acres within the Town of Huntersville. Click here to view the NC 73 LUED Plan.

The NC 73/PTRSAP will update the Huntersville portion of the NC 73 LUED Plan, as well as additional property located east of Poplar Tent Road along the Cabarrus County line and between Huntersville-Concord Road and the Cabarrus County line.

This plan is being prepared in response to land use and transportation changes that have occurred since the NC 73 LUED Plan was prepared, as well as due to changing market conditions and anticipated development within the study area.

A Public Information Session will occur on January 19th from 6 – 8 p.m. at Huntersville Town Hall. This session will include an overview of input received from stakeholders and also preliminary analysis of market, land use and transportation conditions. All members of the public are invited to attend.

Light Refreshments will be served.
