North Carolina Department of Transportation contractors continue their work to complete the widening of NC73 and installation of the quadrant left roadway section along NC73, Holly Point Drive and Statesville Road (US 21).
As of meetings last week, contractors now expect to be complete by April 2012. They had previously hoped to finish the project by the end of 2011.
Contractors expect to shift motorists to the outside lanes in late January to allow them to complete the interior section of the roadway. By March, contractors will be installing changes to the NC73/US 21 intersection to restrict left turns from NC73 onto US 21. As part of the quadrant roadway intersection, motorists seeking to head north on US 21 from NC 73 eastbound will make a right turn onto an upgraded and improved Holly Point Drive and then turn right on to US 21 to head north. Motorists seeking to travel US21 southbound from NC73 westbound will be required to turn left at Holly Point Drive then left onto US21. This revised traffic movement will make the intersection safer and more efficient.
