The first Huntersville Holiday 5k and Half Marathon will take place Saturday, December 3rd. Participants start and conclude the event at Birkdale Village and will run, walk and jog through portions of local neighborhoods Birkdale, McAulay, Wynfield and the Villages at Rosedale and portions of Gilead Road, Ranson Road, Stumptown Road as they work back through neighborhood route to Birkdale Village to complete the half marathon.

Local organizer Bear Robinson wanted to create an event for local runners this holiday season that would highlight the routes many of them utilize on a daily basis.

The half marathon and 5k races both start at 8 a.m. and estimate all race activities concluding by 11 a.m. Event organizers hope for limited impact to local traffic this Saturday morning. The course will be clearly marked and event organizers are working with the Huntersville Police Department and volunteers to ensure the safety of racers and the public. Volunteers will also work to ensure the cleanliness of the routes upon completion of the event to be respectful to surrounding neighborhoods.

There will be no complete road closures as part of this event.

The Huntersville Police Department asks for everyone’s patience and understanding if there are temporary short-term inconveniences during the hours of 8 to 11 a.m., the morning of the race.

The half marathon and 5k courses will cover much of the Birkdale / Torrence Creek Elementary School area of Huntersville as participants in both races will start and finish at Birkdale Village.

The 5k participants will go from Birkdale Village down Birkdale Commons Parkway and turn around through Brentfield Road and Sandowne Lane then back up Birkdale Commons Parkway to Birkdale Village.  See Route Map.

The half marathon participants will go from Birkdale Village, up Sandowne Lane to Brentfield Road through the McAulay Subdivision to Hugh Torance and Wynfield Creek Parkway to Gilead Road for about 100’ to Ranson Road, loop around the Villages at Rosedale, then head back up Ranson Road to Stumptown Road, back to Hugh McAuley Road to Devonshire Drive, return to Birkdale Commons Parkway and conclude at Birkdale Village.  See Route Map.

Event organizers have previously notified the HOA’s of neighborhoods along the race routes, posted fliers and put posters in the area and with major event sponsors Presbyterian Hospital Huntersville, Birkdale Animal Hospital, Keffer Automotive Group and Lakeside Family Physicians.
