Things continue to settle down locally from Friday night's storm that produced torrential downpours and sustained rain throughout Huntersville.
However, several area roads remain closed due to damage from the storm.
Tuesday morning, Huntersville Public Works closed Bud Henderson Road at Darblay Street as about a 4-foot sinkhole developed overnight. This area is just to the west of the sinkhole on Gilead. NCDOT crews are evaluating the repairs needed and this section of road will remain closed until repair work has been completed.
Over the weekend, a 10-15 foot section of Gilead Road, just east of Bud Henderson Road, near Ervin Cook Road sank two to three feet as a result of flooding and is closed until crews can repair the sinkhole. A detour has been signed through this area. Motorists can use McIlwaine and Hambright Roads from Beatties Ford Road to McCoy Road to access Gilead Road.
In some areas, NCDOT is having to wait for water levels to recede before giving a fair assessment. We will update the town's website and social media as we receive more information and if we receive firm time frames on their re-opening.
Other Area Closures:
- Eastfield Rd / Harris Rd, in Cabarrus County, is closed between Fairwoods Drive and Poplar Tent road due to the closure of the bridge over Clarke Creek. NC DOT has the road blocked at Poplar Tent Road and Harris Road and on Harris Road just north of Fairwoods Road for repair. This section is near the entrance to Skybrook and will affect motorists traveling through this area.
- Autumncrest off Asbury Chapel Road in Huntersville's extraterritorial jurisdiction is closed.
- McAuley Road (between Huntersville-Concord and NC 73) in Huntersville's extraterritorial jurisdiction is closed due to bridge damage.
