National Police Week starts today, May 15, 2017 and runs through Sunday, May 21, 2017. National Police Week was established under the Kennedy administration in 1962. President John F. Kennedy designated May 15 as National Peace Officers Memorial Day and the week in which it falls, as National Police Week.
National Police Week recognizes law enforcement officers who lost their lives in the line of duty. Activities are being held throughout the United States this week to recognize fallen officers.
