The Huntersville Police Department encourages residents and the businesses in the community to access a web-based crime prevention tool that alerts citizens via email and text messages.

The Huntersville Police Department has teamed up with Citizen Observer, a web-based alert notification system, which will enable police to quickly enter critically important information about crimes or other incidents, and within seconds send that information directly to businesses, citizens, and crime watch groups. The alert system has proven to be a vital tool in creating and maintaining safe neighborhoods in many cities and towns throughout the United States. Alerts can be received via email or text message and it is free to register to receive alerts.

The targeted alert types that Huntersville Police will send include:
- Citizen Alerts- targeted to residents and may include information that affects public safety townwide.
- Business Alerts- geared toward specific business categories so users only receive information about crimes that are pertinent to them.
- Watch Group Alerts- allows the HPD to send targeted alerts to specific groups with information about crimes or other incidents of importance happening in their immediate area.
- Case Alerts- allows the HPD to automatically disseminate information about open cases to area businesses and citizens.
