Update:

HUNTERSVILLE, NC:

On Monday, December 21, 2015, at approximately 06:11 a.m., officers of the Huntersville Police Department responded to the 12100 block of Mt. Holly-Huntersville Road in reference to a multi-vehicle crash. Upon arrival officers found a 2009 Volkswagen EOS driven by Scott Ryland Cates, DOB: 1/16/1973 pinned under a tractor trailer. The tractor trailer was driven by Scott Thomas Hirsch, DOB: 6/27/1969. The driver of the Volkswagen, Scott Ryland Cates, was pronounced deceased at the scene. Mt. Holly-Huntersville Road was closed for approximately five hours and was reopened around 11:00 a.m. The investigation is being conducted by the Huntersville Police Department’s Traffic Safety Unit. Other agencies on scene included: Huntersville Fire Department, North Mecklenburg Rescue, and North Carolina Highway Patrol. No additional information will be released until the investigation has concluded.
