About Huntersville > News

Monday night, Huntersville Commissioners approved a one-year extension of the town’s contract with Advanced Disposal for collection of solid waste, yard waste and recycling. The town’s current contract ends June 30, 2015 and allows for two one-year extensions.

Service will continue at the current level with garbage and yard waste collected weekly and recycling collected every other week.

Under the one-year agreement approved Monday night, the town will see no rate increases. Current rates are to be maintained with no increases based on the Consumer Price Index and/or fuel prices. It is expected this will save the town in excess of $100,000 in the next fiscal year.

As part of the renewal, town staff has met with Advanced Disposal to discuss improving efficiency of our routes and make things easier for our residents. Approximately 45% of Huntersville customers have a different recycling day than trash day and this creates confusion from time to time in Huntersville neighborhoods.

Schedule Changes are Coming - What Day is Your Trash Picked Up?
To make things easier on residents and improve efficiencies in collection, recycling will soon be collected on the same day of the week (still bi-weekly) as garbage for all Huntersville residents. There is no change to yard waste as it will continue to be collected on your garbage day.  Stay tuned to for more information in coming weeks.

Again, recycling collection will continue as it does currently, every other week.

Over the coming weeks and months, information will be posted on the Town of Huntersville website about the change in dates with maps showing the routes and neighborhoods included. Information will also be shared via social media, email and outreach to HOA’s and neighborhood groups.

We thank you for your patience during this schedule change as we feel it will benefit all of our residents and result in better service.
